About Hicksville Pickleball Coach Dorothy
Hello my name is Dorothy and I am a fun, local Hicksville pickleball coach with over 3 years of playing experience and over 1 year of teaching experience! I am also a PCI Certified Pickleball Professional. I’m a competitive pickleball player with a 4.09 DUPR rating and a passion for helping players improve their skills, confidence, and overall understanding of the game. As a USA Pickleball Ambassador, DUPR Club Director, and Selkirk Advocate, I’m actively involved in the pickleball community and enjoy introducing new players to the sport while helping more experienced players continue to develop.
I have also completed the Pickleball Coaching International (PCI) Introductory Course, building on my playing experience with a stronger foundation in teaching fundamentals, skill development, and effective instruction. My experience with organized play and competitive environments has also helped me develop a practical understanding of strategy, court positioning, shot selection, and the importance of making smart decisions during a game. My approach to coaching is centered around a simple philosophy: Learn the Why. Simplify the How. I believe understanding why a technique/strategy works is just as important as learning how to execute it. Rather than overwhelming players with too much information at once, I focus on breaking down skills into manageable steps that are really easy to understand, practice, and apply during actual gameplay on court.
I particularly enjoy working with beginner and intermediate players, whether they’re learning the fundamentals, developing consistency, improving their court awareness, or just looking to become more competitive. I recognize that every player learns differently, so I tailor instruction to individual strengths, challenges, and goals. My goal is to create a supportive, engaging learning environment where players feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and challenging themselves. Above all, I want every player to leave the court with a better understanding of their game, the practical tools for continued improvement, and much greater confidence in their abilities. I teach pickleball lessons in the Hicksville area but I will also travel up to 15 miles to a pickleball court that is conveniently located close to you!
