Coach Saurabh's Pickleball Tips

  1. Arrive With One Clear Goal

Before your first pickleball lesson, tell Saurabh what you want to improve and what feels difficult. A simple goal, such as making more third-shot drops or feeling confident at the kitchen line, gives your pickleball coach a useful starting point. Bring a paddle, water, and questions; beginner pickleball lessons work best when you share your experience honestly, not when you try to impress.

  2. Choose The Right Lesson Format

Private pickleball lessons give you focused feedback and a plan tailored to your game. Semi-private pickleball lessons let you learn beside a partner while still getting coaching. Group pickleball lessons add shared drills and varied play. Ask Saurabh which format fits your goal, schedule, and comfort level; the best choice is the one that helps you stay engaged and practice consistently.

  3. Make Hitting Sessions Count

A hitting only session is useful when you already know what to work on and want more repetitions. Pick two targets before you start, such as crosscourt dinks and serve depth, then ask Saurabh to watch a few rallies and offer brief cues. Avoid turning the session into unfocused play. Intentional repetition helps you notice patterns and carry a coached adjustment into real points.

  4. Practice One Skill Between Lessons

Between pickleball lessons in Hawthorne, choose one skill from your session and practice it in short, focused blocks. For example, repeat a controlled dink, then add movement only after contact feels steady. Keep the goal simple and stop when your form slips. A few attentive repetitions on several days can build a better habit than one long session without a clear purpose.

  5. Set Goals You Can Measure

Make improvement concrete by setting a small process goal, not just a promise to win more games. You might aim to land six of ten serves in a chosen area or make three patient dinks before speeding up. Saurabh can help adjust the target to your level. Realistic goals make adult pickleball lessons and junior pickleball lessons easier to evaluate without adding pressure.

  6. Bring Kids Into The Plan

For kids pickleball lessons, share your child's interests, attention span, and comfort with competition before play begins. Ask Saurabh to keep instructions short, demonstrate each task, and use playful targets that still teach control. For junior pickleball lessons, include the young player in choosing a goal. Feeling heard can make practice more enjoyable and help a new skill stick between sessions.

  7. Ask For Useful Feedback

During a lesson, ask your pickleball instructor for one correction at a time and a clear cue you can remember under pressure. After a drill, repeat the cue in your own words and try it again. If advice feels unclear, ask for a demonstration or a slower feed. This simple exchange turns feedback into an action, rather than a list of details you forget during play.

  8. Track Progress After Each Session

Keep a brief lesson log with the date, skill practiced, one cue, and what felt better or harder. Note a simple count, such as successful serves out of ten, so you can compare sessions fairly. Bring the notes to Saurabh and choose the next focus together. Tracking effort and consistency shows progress even when game scores change from day to day.

  9. Review Your Plan Regularly

Every few sessions, check whether your lesson format and goals still fit. You may begin with private pickleball lessons to learn fundamentals, then try group play for decision-making, or return to one-on-one coaching for a stubborn shot. Tell Saurabh what feels useful and what you want next. A flexible plan keeps pickleball lessons purposeful as your confidence and skills develop.

  10. Coach's Corner

I teach a soft third-shot drop by asking you to loosen your grip and swing from your shoulder, not your wrist. Aim to send the ball upward so it peaks near the kitchen line and falls into the non-volley zone. Start from a cooperative feed, then add movement. If the ball sails long, soften your hand before changing your target; control comes before power.

Ready to make your next practice more purposeful?
